Ottawa Citizen - May 23, 2011 KEMP, Eldon Howard It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of a husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, stepbrother and uncle on Sunday, May 22, 2011 in his 90th year. Eldon was the son of the late Howard Kemp and the late Irene Vipond of Blackburn Corners (Blackburn Hamlet). He was the beloved husband of Lois Spratt, loving father and father-in-law of Gordon and Susan (Crosby), Evelyn and Donald Budd, Murray and Judy (Brewer), Kevin and Camille (Scully), Diane Kemp and Jacob Eyzenga (formerly of Bob Blaskie), Randall and Judy (Boys) and David. He loved his twenty-two grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. He will also be missed by his sisters Ariel Hancock (Alexander), Joyce Whyte (Jim Eady and formerly of the late Milton) and stepsister Lois Long. Predeceased by four brothers Morris (Grace Ival), Winston (Irene Hepburn), Carl Lewis Wesley (Pauline Hepburn), Kenneth (Marion Phillips), his sisters-in-law deceased Ruth (Jim Sutherland), Marion (Harold Dillon) and Lee (deceased Tom McVeigh and Larry Sharpe). Eldon was a veteran of the Royal Canadian Navy and served his country from 1942-1945. He received the Governor General's Long Service Award for 25 years in the Scouting movement. Eldon was a school trustee of Blackburn Public School and a long time member of the Rothwell United Church and active in the creation of the church building in 1961. As a founding member of the Blackburn Community Association, he supported activities for Blackburn's young people including the annual Fun Fair, hockey teams andfour decades of building outdoor ice rinks. He was a dedicated employee for 30 years at the National Research Council. The family offers their warmest thanks to the staff at the Perley Rideau who took such wonderful care of him during his stay over the past three years. Friends are invited to visit at the St. Laurent Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 1200 Ogilvie Road (at Aviation Parkway) Tuesday, May 24 from 2-4 and 7 -9 p.m. Funeral Service Wednesday, May 25 at Rothwell United Church (42 Sumac Street) at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Perley & Rideau Veterans' Health Centre Foundation. |
