BY HERB DRILL, INQUIRER CORRESPONDENTPOSTED: September 07, 1996 Mr. Keel had founded Keel & Co. Inc. in Philadelphia in 1929. The firm, which made and distributed tire equipment, later moved to the Lansdale area. He retired in 1989 at age 92.
A lifelong conservative, Mr. Keel was a Republican committeeman for many years in Philadelphia's Mount Airy section and had served on the executive committee for the 59th Ward. He had also chaired the house committee of the Germantown Republican Club.
``I also remember [Philadelphia Councilman] Thacher Longstreth coming to our house in the early days of his political career.'' Mr. Keel was born in Philadelphia but grew up and was educated in the Oxford area.
Mr. Keel lived in Philadelphia for many years and in Worcester from 1981 to 1995, when he moved to Normandy Farms. In addition to his daughter Kerry, he is survived by his wife of 67 years, Elsie Rogers Keel; another daughter, Joan Kerr; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. The funeral service and burial were to be private. The family suggests contributions to the Heritage Foundation, 214 Massachusetts Ave. N.E., Washington, D.C. 20002, in lieu of flowers. |
