George never married. Like his brother Robert, he was a Packer and a Painter. In 1875 he spent some time in Brookwood Mental Hospital in Woking, Surrey. He was in Southwark Workhouse between 1905 and 1908 and also in 1911. He was still there in 1939 just before his death.

George, his brother James and sister Catherine were all baptized on the same day in 1868.
