Valerie A. (McGuire) McCormick, 83, of Narragansett, Rhode Island, passed away on Wednesday, May 17, 2023. She was the beloved wife of the late Richard V. McCarron and Brendan K. McCormick. Born in Pawtucket, RI, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Josephine (Eastwood) McGuire. Valerie completed high school at Sacred Heart Academy in Pawtucket and received a scholarship to attend the St. Joseph School of Nursing at Our Lady of Fatima Hospital. Upon graduating, she worked as an X-Ray technician at Pawtucket Memorial Hospital. As a lifelong volunteer, Valerie gave generously of her time to adult literacy and heart health programs, and served as a bereavement support group leader with HopeHealth Hospice and Palliative Care for 20 years. She had a wonderful sense of humor and made friends wherever she went. Valerie took great pride in her Irish heritage and spent many hours documenting her family’s genealogy. She loved gardening, reading, music, dancing, yoga, taking walks along the sea wall, and spending time with her family. Valerie was a devout Catholic and found joy and solace in her faith. She attended daily mass, most recently at Christian Brothers Center in Narragansett. Her commitment to her faith and her volunteer community was an inspiration to her family and those around her. Valerie treasured her family and is survived by her four loving children, Leslie McCarron (Mary Ellen) of Lisbon, Connecticut; Sean McCarron of Narragansett; Cristin Mitchell (John) of Duxbury, Massachusetts; and Heather Allard (Scott) of Pawtucket, and her seven beloved grandchildren, Emily and Hannah Morrell, Audrey and Maeve Mitchell, and Hope, Grace, and Brendan Allard. She also leaves a brother, Dennis P. McGuire of Charlestown, and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. She was predeceased by her sister, Joellen McGuire. Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 22, 2023 from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM at Avery Storti Funeral Home, 88 Columbia St, Wakefield, RI 02879, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 11:00 AM in the chapel at De La Salle Christian Brothers Center, 635 Ocean Rd, Narragansett, RI 02882. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation to HopeHealth Hospice and Palliative Care. Donations may be made online at www.HopeHealthCo.org/InMemory or sent to HopeHealth Hospice, 1085 North Main St., Providence, RI 02904. |
