John became a Blacksmith and in 1865 aged 18 was transported to Freemantle, Western Australia. His sentence was 14 years for rape and he was discharged on 19 September 1870. On 17may 1869 he was given 3 days Bread and Water for telling the master Blacksmith he was "A Bloody Fool". On 22may1868, he had 2 sentences of 5 and 2 days bread and water for disobedience and calling the Master Blacksmith a Villain. On 26feb1868 he was cautioned for leaving his cell and cell utensils in a dirty state on 9mar1867 he was given the sentence of 7 days bread and water for Idleness in the Blacksmith's shop. On 9th May 1867 he was given 1 day on bread and water for a dirty cell. In early 1866 he twice had to forfeit 14 days tobacco for the crime of a dirty and untidy cell. He later married his emplyers daughter and they had 5 children. |
