Wheelock Barbara C. Age 95, was called to her heavenly home August 14th to be at eternal rest with her beloved husband Glenn Wheelock, whom she dearly missed for the last nine years and their baby angel, Danny. Loved and cherished mother of Gary (Mary Ann) Wheelock of Petoskey, Diane (Terry) Wilson of Woodhaven Steve (Diane) Wheelock of Alanson, Denise (Larry) Hawk of Southgate, Greg (Theresa) Wheelock of Plymouth Ron (Leslie) Wheelock of Rochester Hills; Loving grandmother of 13 whom will dearly miss her, along with 20 great grandchildren; all of whom Barbara took great pride. Barbara was interested in their latest endeavors and activities and loved to listen about their daily lives. In her later years it was the highlight of her day to have a call or visit from them and all her relatives and friends. Also survived by sisters-in-laws, Virginia Meyecic, Mary Wartella and Ada Wheelock; and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her beloved husband Glenn Wheelock, baby son Danny, Mother and Father John and Magdalena (Pinkos) Maychick; sisters Rose Merta, Carolina Waluzak; and brothers Albert Maychick and Joseph Meyecic. Barbara was born May 9th, 1921 in Pennsylvania and raised in Detroit. Barbara and Glenn married at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Detroit in June 22nd 1946. The couple lived briefly in Detroit and also Cheboygan before making their home in Lincoln Park for the next 32 years where they raised their children. After Barbara’s retirement from JC Penney, the couple moved to Levering, Michigan, Glenn’s boyhood home, where they lived their remaining years. Glenn and Barbara had traveled most of the country, but their favorite place was home, where they loved receiving family and friends. For many years the couple hosted the family reunion at the 4th of July, which was always a full house and joyous and happy memories were made, as well as their cottage on Douglas Lake where many happy times were had through the years. Barbara was an active member of the Helping Hand club for many years, many bible classes and also tried her hand at quilting bees several times. She was a member of St. Mary’s church in Cheboygan for many years and later attended Sacred Heart Church with her good neighbor and friend Jackie Burnett. Barbara had a love for reading, even as she was loosing her sight, she listened to her audio tapes nearly to her passing. It is an amazing accomplishment that Barbara has touched so many, young and old alike, with her openness and friendly, sunny disposition. Getting around in her later years after being legally blind (suffering from Macular Degeneration) was a challenge, but Barbara was up to the task and was quite the inspiration to her children and grandchildren alike. Being determined not to let it deter her. You would find Barbara dancing , attending church meetings, playing bingo, listening to the live music, participating in wi bowling, attending happy hour; all that was offered at American House where she lived since October 2015. Barbara will be dearly missed by her family and friends. The funeral service offered in her honor and memory will be handled by: Nordman Christian Funeral Home, 302 S. Huron St., Cheboygan, Mi 49721 Thursday, August 18th 2016,11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Donations can be made in Memory of Barbara to Hospice of Petoskey, Hiland Cottage, One Hiland Drive, Petoskey, Michigan.
