Church of the Advent, Ridgetown, was the setting on Saturday of Phyllis E. Bateman, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Joseph Bateman of Thamesville and Mr. Donald G. Jones, son of Mr. & Mrs. J.M. Jones of St. Thomas.
Canon J.H. Smith Rector of the Church, performed the ceremony. Mrs. M. Ure played the wedding music and Mrs. John Bateman sang "Because" during the signing of the register.
The bride given in marriage by her father wore a gown of white satin with a fitted lace bodice net yoke with a Peter Pan lace collar and long sleeves. The floor length bouffant skirt was of net over satin. Her finger-tip veil of nylon net was caught to the head with a coronet of sequins. The bride wore a gold cross pendant and carried a white Bible and orchid tied with white streamers knotted with white carnations.
The maid of honour was the bride's sister, Miss Marjorie Bateman. She wore a gown of yellow sheer over taffeta fashioned with fitted bodice and bouffant skirt. Her short veil was of matching shade and she carried a nosegay of chrysanthemums.
The bridesmaid, Miss Caroline Prokopuk, was similarly gowned in green. The junior bridesmaid, Miss Pat Bateman, a niece of the bride, wore a floor length dress of yellow muslin similar in style to that of the Matron of honour. She carried a nosegay of chrysanthemums. Master David Egley was ringbearer.
The groomsman was Mr. Neil Campbell of Windsor. The ushers were Mr. Edward Bateman, brother of the bride and Mr. Jack Hore.
A reception was held at the home of the bride's parents. Mrs. Bateman wore a black faille dress with white accessories and a corsage of red roses. The mother of the groom chose gray lace with wine accessories and a corsage of pink roses.
For a wedding trip to New York, the bride donned a brown corduroy dress with brown accessories, alligator shoes and bag and a a green Hudson Bay top coat. She wore an orchid corsage and a rhinestone necklace and bracelet, the gift of the groom.
Out of town guests were present from Florence, Thamesville, Windsor, Detroit, Stratford, Bothwell, St. Thomas and Ridgetown.

JONES, Phyllis Elizabeth (nee Bateman) - With incredible courage and strength Phyllis entered a restful sleep after suffering the effects of a stroke one year ago. Phyllis joins her husband of 50 years Don (2001) now for a long over due golf game. Pre-deceased by her parents Joe and Phyllis Bateman, infant son Gary (1955), brothers Bob, Wally, Ed, sister in law Janet and son in law Sam (2009). Survived by her children Lynn Timson and Jeff (Jenny), her grandchildren Taylor (Mellissa), Travis, Trista and Andi and her sister Marjorie Simmons of Chatham. She is also survived by her very dear friends Eileen Bunn and Carol Broughton who have been right at her side for the past year through all of the highs and lows that recovery from a stroke presents. Phyllis lived her life with the attitude that anything is possible as long as you keep yourself grounded and you work hard toward your goals while sharing yourself with friends and family. She was the embodiment of honesty and believed everyone should be given a chance which in the case of her devotion to the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Blue Jays meant chance after chance after chance. Phyllis and Don enjoyed retirement years golfing and travelling from Thailand to Tennessee and from Key West to Alaska. Her sister Marj and Phyllis played baseball together for the Florence Chics and went on to be inducted into the Dresden sports hall of fame. Phyllis will best be remembered by all those that knew her for her zest for life and her personal commitment to all of her friends and family. The service will take place on Thursday July 28th, 2011 from the MILLER FUNERAL CHAPEL, Cayuga 11:00am. Visitation Wednesday 2-4 and 7-9pm. Interment in Riverside Cemetery, Cayuga. In lieu of flowers, donations to the St. Joseph's Life Care Center - Long Term Care, Wayne Gretzky Way, Brantford would be appreciated
