Mrs Joseph Bateman
Thamesville (Special) - Funeral services for Mrs Phyllis Bateman, wife of Joseph Bateman, Orford Township, were conducted at the Brown Funeral Home Monday afternoon, and were largely attended by sorrowing relatives and friends. Rev Robert Murray of St Stephen's Anglican Church, officiated and was assisted by Rev J.H.Smith of Ridgetown.
Mrs Bateman died at Public General Hospital Chatham on Friday, from injuries sustained in a motor car accident near Turin on September 5. She was in her 56th year.
Born in Colby England, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Trafford. At the age of 10 years old she came to Canada with her family and parents and located at Thamesville. She attended the Public and Continuation schools here, and after her marriage to Joseph Bateman they lived on the homestead farm in Orford.
Surviving besides her husband are two daughters, Mrs Donald Jones (Phyllis) of Cayuga; Margarie at home; three sons Edward and Robert of RR3 Thamesville; Wallace of Stratford and two grandchildren; also three sisters, Mrs Henry Wall and Mrs John Micheals both of Detroit, Mrs Ross Dick Windsor, and two brothers George Trafford of Detroit and Wallace Trafford of Mt Clemens, Michigan.
Acting as pallbearers were Blake Tinline, Wilfred Yack, Vern Patterson, Wilfred Secord, J.M. Coutts and William Gerry. Internment was in Sherman Cemetery, Thamesville.
