Eula Bell Jones Myers is my Mother. That being the case I could write a million stories about her, but I suspect few would find them of much interest since she's "my mom". There is one, however, that may be an exception, so I'll tell it to you. When Eula was near five years old she lived in Tipton, Tillman County, Oklahoma with her very handsome young Dad, Joe, and her very lovely, young Mother, Annabelle. "Her daddy dotted over her excessively" folks later said, so it is easy to understand why she still remembered when he died until the day of her death in 1987. She never knew all of the circumstances of his murder. She never really cared to find out either. What she wanted was to know her Jones family. Annabelle had filed for a divorce before Joe was shot, but it was not final before Joe's death. Since Annabelle had basically "left" the Jones family and later married a different Joe, there wasn't really any reason for either Annabelle or the Joneses to keep in touch, right? Eula did not agree. She did not wish to loose contact with the Jones family. THEY were HER family too. She kept in contact. When we children came along she took us every year to Oklahoma to visit her family. One of those visits was to Grandma Jones. I still remember it fondly. After his retirement, Dad and Mom visited them more often, even when some folks told her not to. Mom always spoke of them highly. I guess it was her "not knowing them" that got me into family history research so deeply. Now, we know, at least, where Joe came from, to the Hacking connection! There are still a lot of stories to hear and to learn. Someday, maybe not until eternity, we'll know it "all". Until then, here's just a little insight into "my mom". |
