OBITUARY: Cedar Fort Man Dies Suddenly From Menengitis
LaVerle Thomas Hacking, 29, Cedar fort, died Tuesday at 11 p.m. in the American Fork hospital, following a two day illness. He became ill Sunday morning and entered the hospital Tuesday morning..
Mr. Hacking was born Jan. 19, 1919 at Cedar Fort, a son of Thomas William and Karen Bingham Hacking at Cedar Fort. He graduated from Lehi High school and attended Brigham Young University at Provo for two years.
He joined the National Guard, and in March 1941 entered the service. He spent a year in Hawaii and then was sent overseas in He sent a year in Hawaii and went overseas in 1944, where he was a lieutenant in the Air corps in Carsica. For seven months he underwent the severe ordeals of a prisoner of war in Germany during which time there was no communication with his family. In August 1945 he was released from the service.
While stationed in California Mr Hacking was married June 3, 1943 to Gene Young of Blanding, on July 3, 1943. Later received their endowments in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
The deceased has been an active member of the LDS church. Prior to entering the service he served as Sunday School superintendent and scout leader. At the time of his death he was superintendent of the M.I.A. and adviser of the teachers quorum of the Aaronic priesthood.
Surviving are his wife, two children, Thomas William, 4, and Anna Marie, 2; his parents, Cedar Fort; and five sisters, Mrs. Reed (Berniece) Balle, Columbia; Mrs. Irvin W. (Maurine) Jeffery, Delta; Mrs. LeGrand (Lola) Fowlke, Orem; Mrs. C. Walter (Elna) Wilson, Cedar Fort, and Mrs. William B. (Venna) Elton, Tooele.
Funeral services will be held at Cedar fort ward chapel Friday at 2 p.m. and interment will be made in the Cedar Valley cemetery.
