Deceased Name: Obituary: Fon Elvin Cook Fon Elvin Cook, 92, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother, returned to our Heavenly Father on Oct. 24, 2001, at his home in Cedar Fort, Utah.
Fon was born April 2, 1909, in Cedar Fort, Utah, the third child of James Earl and Martha Caroline Hacking Cook. He graduated from Lehi High School in 1927 and BYU in 1939 with a B.S. degree in history and a minor in political science. While at BYU, he was a member of the BYU Marching Band. Fon was an avid reader who loved history and had a great knowledge of the scriptures and LDS Church doctrine.

For a year during the Depression, Fon took the job of running a snow grader to clear the snow from the road between Railroad Hill (Lehi) and Cedar Fort. The snow plow was pulled by six head of horses, four behind and two on the lead. It took a full day to go over and back to keep the road open.

Before the war, Fon worked at the Mercur Gold Mine sample bucking and assaying gold. He spent three and one-half years in the Army during World War II (two and one-half at Agra Air Base in India) where he was a staff sergeant and radio engineer. He also spent two years serving an LDS mission to Northern California. He has held many positions in the LDS Church.

Fon spent 17 years as a visiting teacher for the Alpine School District helping children who had to stay home for medical reasons to keep up with their school work. He taught grades kindergarten through twelfth in the northern part of the district. After retirement, he sold real estate for many years.

Music was always an important part of Fon's life. He had a beautiful tenor voice and the talent of whistling like a bird (trills and all). He performed with the Timpanogos Chorale throughout the state for many years, and he also performed with other choirs, quartets, etc., singing at funerals, conferences, etc.

On Nov. 17, 1952, Fon married the former Ileen Sunderland in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They were blessed with four children: Darrell and Brian Cook of Cedar Fort; Blaine (Marla) Cook, and LaNae (Brad) Kirkham of American Fork. Fon has six grandchildren; Cameron, Landon and Rachel Cook; and Kathleen, Elizabeth and Trenton Kirkham.

Fon has been a farmer and rancher his entire life. He is survived by his wife; children; grandchildren; and his sister and brother, Evelyn Peterson and Glen Cook of Cedar Fort.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his other siblings; Melba Hindley, Vera Carson, Ernil, Merlin, and Leonard Cook.

Funeral services will be Monday, Oct. 29, 2001 at 12 p.m. at the Cedar Fort LDS Chapel, 22 E. Center. Friends and family may call Sunday evening 6-8 p.m. at the Wing Mortuary, 118 E. Main, Lehi, and Monday at the church one hour prior to services. Interment, Cedar Fort City Cemetery with military honors.
