Note

Fred Hacking Calder, 72, of Rexburg, passed away May 27, of a chronic lung disease, in his home surrounded by his wife and children. He was born July 11, 1936 as the eighth and youngest child to Leo and Lucile Hacking Calder in Vernal, Utah.

He married Shirley Smith June 10, 1961 in the Los Angeles LDS temple. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served enthusiastically in everything he was called to do including a mission to New Zealand. Fred’s greatest love in his life was his family; he also loved temple service, storytelling, and reminiscing about Vernal, and his mission. His hobbies were beekeeping, gardening, woodworking, dutch oven cooking, and ice cream making. He worked as a farmer, banker, insurance agent, baker, bee keeper, and bus driver for the Madison School district and forest firefighters.

He was an eternal optimist who loved people and was able to make friends with anyone that crossed his path. He loved being a home teacher, and socializing with his ward family. Just over a week before his passing he joined them for the annual fathers and sons outing to the delight of his brethren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother Glen and sister Lucy. He is survived by two brothers and three sisters; his wife Shirley Smith Calder; children; Carrie Bean of Idaho Falls, Deanne (Garth) Andrus of Atlanta, Helen (Clair) Barrus of Draper, Byron Calder of Roy, Quinn (Laura) Calder of West Jordan, Gina (Ben) Berrett of Midway, Shane (Britany) of Logan, Lisa Marie Calder of Logan, Utah; sixteen grandchildren with one on the way and one great-grandchild.
