Cleone Windley Smith Hacking
SALT LAKE CITY - Our loving mother and grandmother, Cleone Windley Smith Hacking, passed away at her daughter's home Sunday, July 27, 2003.

Cleone was born February 18, 1915, in St. Charles, Idaho, to Charles Andrew and Evelyn Rich Windley. After graduating from high school, she moved to California, where she married Josie Elden Smith. They were later sealed in the St. George, Utah, Temple.
Widowed at an early age with two young daughters to support, Cleone took in boarders and worked as a "Rosie the Riveter" at Lockheed Aircraft during World War II.

Cleone married Thayne William Hacking on August 4, 1945, and they had two more daughters. They lived in Van Nuys and Bakersfield, California, Salt Lake City, Utah, and Lava Hot Springs, Idaho, where they lived for 19 years until Thayne's death in 2002.
She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and served in many callings.

Cleone was very kind, patient, loving and nurturing. She crocheted many afghans for her family and enjoyed their visits.
She is survived by her four daughters, Sharon Van Spanje, La Habra, Calif., Paula (Buddy) Vineyard, Ogden, Utah, Catherine (Pete) Sanders-Zamora, Salt Lake City, Utah, Pamela (Mark) Morgan, Sandy, Utah; 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Also surviving is her sister, Nola (Don) Purcell, and her brother, Keith "Bud" (Anne) Gooch, both of Ashton, Idaho.
