Deceased Name: Obituary: Douglas R. Hacking 5/8/28 ~ 3/5/03 Douglas R. Hacking, 74, of Stansbury Park, Utah, beloved husband, father, and grandparent passed away March 5, 2003 after a lingering illness. Born at home on May 8, 1928 to Donald and Amelia Jorgenson Hacking in Spring Canyon, Utah, near Price. Doug grew up in Salt Lake City, graduating from East High in 1946. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving as a military policeman with the occupational forces in Japan at the conclusion of World War II. He attended the University of Utah in 1949 and remained an avid Ute fan to the end. Employed by the Union Pacific Railroad as a station agent and telegraph operator in Idaho, Utah and Nevada. Retired as Chief Dispatcher for the railroad in 1986, after 37 years of service. Married Joyce Kidgell in 1949 and taught their three sons how to fish and play baseball. Later divorced. Married Barbara Donovan McGinn in 1984. Member of the St. Marguerites Catholic Church, the Union Pacific Old Timer's Club, was active in Little League Baseball, and avid reader especially history. Is survived by his loving wife Barbara, his brother Donald Hacking, sisters, Janice Howard and Karen Stafford, his three sons, Douglas, Michael and Perry; and four grandchildren Douglas R., Christine K., Michael E., and Vivian C., stepsons Gregory McGinn and Thomas McGinn and seven step grandchildren. Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, March 8, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. St. Marguerites Catholic Church, 510 East Vine (Vine and 7th), Tooele, Utah. Friends may call Friday 6:30-7:30 p.m. with Rosary Service to follow and on Saturday viewing to be held one hour prior to Mass. Interment: Holladay Cemetery. Funeral Directors: Holladay-Cottonwood Mortuary. |
