Note	Committed Suicide by taking Strychnine FUNERAL HELD FOR SYLVIA C. MERKLEY MONDAY IN MAESER MAESER-- A chapel well filled with friends and relatives who, with many beautiful floral offerings, combined to pay final respects to Mrs. Sylvia Caldwell Merkley, 60, Monday at 1 p.m. in Maeser Ward Chapel. Mrs. Merkley died Friday at her home here. She was born September 18, 1895, in Vernal, to Franics Marion and Amanda Taylor Caldwell. On February 23, 1916, she was married to John Henry Merkley. He died January 19, 1954. Survivors include a stepmother, Mrs. Effie Caldwell, Vernal; two sons, Reed Merkley, San Bruno, California; Harold Merkley, Vernal; two daughters, Mrs. Melba Holfeltz, Salt Lake City and Mrs. Mathel Bryant, Fort Morgan, Colorado and six grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, Francis Caldwell, Cleveland, Ohio; and Blake Caldwell of Vernal; eight hal-brothers and sisters, Lamond, Eldon, Forrest, Aris and Lawrence Caldwell of Maeser, Mrs. Charles (Norma) Burton, Lapoint; Mrs. Isobell Galley, Maeser and Mrs. Lela McCarrell, Vernal. Services were under the direction of Bishop Ward Evans of Maeser First Ward. Prayer at the home was offered by Douglas Lawson. "Sometime We'll Understand" was sung by a mixed chorus including Ernest and Chellus Caldwell, Mrs. May Jorgensen, Mrs. Vonetta Hpkins, Mrs. Geneva Adamson and Mrs. Idonna Call, accompanied by Mrs. Mable Stagg. Invocation was offered by Thomas E. Caldwell, Carl R. Richens praised the stalwart family lines from which Mrs. Merkley had come and how Mr. and Mrs. Merkley had been devoted to their children. Gerald Caldwell sang, "The Old Rugged Cross" accompanied by his wife. Harmon Sowards paid tribute to the fact that there never had been a dishonest Caldwell or Merkley. Mrs. Margaret Caldwell presented a violin selection, "That Wonderful Mother of Mine." After a short address by Bishop Evans, the chorus sang, "Lead Me Gentley Home." Benediction was offered by W. E. Bodily. The grave was dedicated by Mark M. Hall. Pallbearers were Amos Merkley, Warren Merkley, Theroll Caldwell, Orlo Caldwell, Junior Merkley and Troy Burton. FUNERAL HELD FOR SYLVIA C. MERKLEY MONDAY IN MAESER

MAESER-- A chapel well filled with friends and relatives who, with many beautiful floral offerings, combined to pay final respects to Mrs. Sylvia Caldwell Merkley, 60, Monday at 1 p.m. in Maeser Ward Chapel.

Mrs. Merkley died Friday at her home here.
