Evanna Skerl Merkley, 81 passed away Saturday April 17, 2004 at her home in Vernal She was born in Knezak, Slovenia (used to be Yugoslavia) on September 20, 1922 to Matija "Matt" and Yohana " Johanna" Novak Skerl. She graduated from Notre Dame School and Carbon High School in Price, Utah. She married Amos E. Merkley on July 22, 1950 in Price, Utah and continued her education in Vernal. Evanna enjoyed traveling and seeing new places. She enjoyed gardening and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Evanna was always friendly to everyone and enjoyed doing things for others. She was an active member of St. James Catholic Church. Evanna is survived by her children; Burt (Terri) Merkley; Boise, ID. Gary A. Merkley Seattle, WA. Mark J. Merkley Seattle, WA.; Paul E. Merkley of Vernal; and Joanna (Robert) Wilkins of Vernal. 11 grandchildren; sister Tillie; of Lancaster, CA. many Nieces, nephews and family in Solvena. She is preceded in death by her husband Amos, parents, sister Terri and brother Matthew. Funeral Mass will be held at St. James Catholic Church on Wednesday April 21, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. Holy Rosary will be Tuesday evening at the Church at 7:00 p.m. Friends may call at the Church Tuesday 8-9 p.m. and Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be in the Measer Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Thomson-Blackburn Vernal Mortuary.
