FUNERAL SERVICES CONDUCTED FOR GEORGE A. MERKLEY George A. (Bert) Merkley, 69, Vernal, died Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in a Salt Lake hospital. Mr. Merkley was born December 18, 1882, in Vernal, a son of George E. and Phebe Ann Hacking Merkley. Mr. Merkley, who was a prominent farmer and rancher in Maeser all of his life, recently moved to Vernal. On October 10, 1906, he married Georgiana Blackburn in the Salt Lake Temple. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday at 1 p.m. in the Vernal Third Ward Chapel by Bishop C. Laurence Fox. Burial was in the Maeser Fairview Cemetery. Surviving Mr. Merkley are his widow; four sons, David, Amos, Warren Merkley, all of Vernal and Woodrow Merkley, Helper; six daughters, Eva Merkley, Mrs. Edna White and Mrs. Flora Singleton, all of Vernal; Mrs. Isabel Lewis and Mrs. Kate Jewkes, both of Price; and Mrs. Marie Voyles, Worland, Wyoming; three brothers and three sisters, John Henry and Morgan Merkley, Mrs. Eleanor Hall, Mrs. Jane Colton and Mrs. Audrey Richens, all of Vernal and Parley Merkley, Mesa, Arizona and 11 grandchildren. Prayer at the home preceding the services was offered by F. E. Colton. Opening number was an organ solo "Going Home" by Melba Sargent. R. A. Bryson offered the invocation, after which a quartet sang, "Oh My Father." Quartet Members were Roberta Ufford, Elizabeth Sowards, Chellus M. Caldwell and Lawrence Cooper, accompanist was Dorothy Jolley. First speaker was Harmon S. Sowards after which Harvey Knight sang "The Old Rugged Cross." Second speaker was H. Walter Woolley, followed by another number by the quartet. Benediction was offered by Carl R. Richens and dedication of the grave was by Mark M.
