Glade Hacking Calder Birth: Sep. 9, 1930 Paper: Deseret News, The (Salt Lake City, UT) UT United States Glade Hacking Calder 1930 ~ 2006 Lt. Col. (Ret.) Glade Hacking Calder returned to his Heavenly Father on July 12, 2006, at the Uintah Care Center in Vernal, Utah. He was born in Vernal, Utah, on September 9, 1930, to Wallace and May Hacking Calder. He married Phoebe Arlene Parry on June 4, 1954, in the L.D.S. Salt Lake Temple. He is survived by his wife of 52 years Arlene P. Calder; brother Earl H. (Afton) Calder of Vernal, UT; brother Paul H. (Gerri) Calder of Mapleton, UT; brother-in-law Charles Allred of Vernal, UT; sister-in-law Norma Calder of Salt Lake City, UT; children: Pamela J. (Keith) Warner of American Falls, ID; Shanna L. Koran of Vernal, UT; Alan G. (Shari) Calder of Vernal, UT; Patty A. (Bryan) Duncan of Bakersfield, CA; Wallace J. (Leslie) Calder of Fruit Heights, UT; Dianne (Joe) Batty of Vernal, UT; David C. (Kristi) Calder of Herriman, UT; Paula C. (Dave) Sageser of Murray, UT; Rebecca S. (Hans) Wentzel of Sacramento, CA; 28 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Glade was preceded in death by his parents Wallace and May Hacking Calder, sister Neva, brother Lloyd H. (Norma) Calder, brother Neldon H. (Hazel) Calder, sister Helen C. (Vernon) Larsen, and sister Melba C. Allred. Glade graduated from Utah State University with a Bachelor degree, and later received a Master of Science degree from Livingston University in Alabama. Glade served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the British Isles from 1950-1952. Glade served in the United States Air Force from June, 1954, to June, 1981, retiring with the rank of Lt. Col. He entered the service as a pilot and later served as a Unit Commander in the Physiological Training Program for fighter pilots. He traveled to many places with his family while in the Air Force. Glade also earned many service medals including: the Meritorious Service Medal, the Air Force Commendation Medal, and the Vietnam Service Medal. Glade was an Eagle Scout and was involved in scouting most of his life. Glade was an avid rock hound and he loved Glade and Arlene accepted a call as service missionaries for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving in Phoenix, Arizona. They taught English to migrant workers who worked on the Church's farms. The family would like to thank the staff of Uintah Care Center for their loving and devoted care of our father. Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 17, 2006, at the Ashley Maeser Chapel, in Vernal, Utah, at 11:00 a.m. A viewing will be held on Sunday, July 16, 2006, from 6-8 p.m. at the Thompson Blackburn Mortuary and also one hour prior to the funeral services. Compassionate Service provided by Ashley 1st Ward. Interment will be in the Vernal Memorial Park under the direction of Thompson Blackburn Mortuary with military honors provided by the Vernal American Legion Post 124 and 11. Family links: Spouse: |
