There were surely shouts of joy in Heaven on Tuesday when Eva June Heaps Ashby returned to her eternal home. June passed away peacefully on November 13, 2007 at the Avalon Care Center in Bountiful, Utah of causes incident to age.

This wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend was born on November 10, 1917 to Thomas Alma Heaps and Sarah Edith Shurtz in Escalante, Garfield County, Utah, the fourth of six children. She had four brothers and one sister and is the last survivor. June graduated from Escalante High School and was valedictorian of her class. She met her husband, Ward Hacking Ashby, during World War II, where they were both working at the Remington Arms Factory. They were married June 25, 1943 in the Salt Lake Temple.

They lived in Midvale, Utah for most of their 55 years of marriage. Ward passed away on May 1, 1998. June was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving faithfully in many capacities. Her service in the church culminated when she served as a Temple Worker in the Jordan River Temple, a calling which she loved. Her most important legacy is that of beloved mother and grandmother. She was the perfect example to all of us and her wise counsel was sought often as we sat at her feet and were lovingly taught by her.

She is lovingly remembered and survived by two sons, Dennis (Carol) of Mesa, AZ; and David (Kathryn) of Bountiful; 11 grandchildren, Michael (Jill), Steve, Jeff (Klysta), Janet, Heather, Jill Manfull (Matt), John (Amie), Bryan (Dela), Karen Davis (Rob), Derek, and Gregory; 22 great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, November 16, 2007 at 11 a.m. at the Midvale 1st Ward Chapel, Midvale North Stake, 308 West 7500 South. A viewing will be held on Thursday November 15th from 7-8:30 p.m. at Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary, 1950 East Dimple Dell Road (10600 South), Sandy and on Friday from 10-10:45 a.m. at the Chapel.

Interment will be in Larkin Sunset Gardens Cemetery.
