Funeral Services Held in Lapoint For J. C. Hacking Funeral services were held Monday, July 27 in Lapoint Ward Chapel for James Claire Hacking, 81, Lapoint, who died in a Provo hospital July 23 of natural causes. Opening prayer was offered by Roy Huber. Speakers were LeRoy Morrill and B. O. Colton. Benediction was given by Ed Bodily. Burial was in the Lapoint Cemetery. George Hacking dedicated the grave. Mr. Hacking was a former member of the Utah State Legislature and a former clerk of Uintah County. He was born January 1, 1878 in Cedar Fork, Utah, a son of James and Annie Glines Hacking. He married Harriett Bodily on January 3, 1900, in Salt Lake LDS Temple. Active in public office, Mr. Hacking served as Uintah County Clerk, clerk of the Third District court and a delegate to several state Republican conventions. He served two terms in the Utah State Legislature in 1929 and 1931. During his second term he was speaker of the House of Representatives. He was a director of the Roosevelt State Bank and a member of the Whiterocks Irrigation Company Board of Directors for many years. About 10 years ago he retired from farming and raised sheep. he also operated a general store and post office on the Ute Indian reservation. Survivors include his widow, Brigham City; three sons, George R. Hacking, Brigham City; Carl J. Hacking, Salt Lake City; Duane L. Hacking, Kearns; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Hacking LAPOINT, Uintah County-- Funeral services will be held here Monday for James Clair Hacking, 81, Lapoint native and former member of the Utah State Legislature, who died Thursday in a Provo Hopital of cause incident to age. The services are scheduled for 11 a.m. in the Lapoint Ward Chapel, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Mr. Hacking was born January 1, 1878, in Cedar Fort, Utah County, a son of James and Annie Glines Hacking. On January 3, 1900, he married Harriet Bodily in the Salt Lake Temple. Before being elected to the Utah State Legislature in 1929 and again in 1931, he served as clerk of the Third District Court, and as a delegate to several state Republican conventions. During his second term in the state Legislature he was speaker of the House of Representatives. He also had raised sheep and farmed in Lapoint before retiring 10 years ago. He is survived by his widow, Brigham City; three sons, George R. Hacking, Brigham City; Carl J. Hacking, Salt Lake City; Duane L. James health was poor so he was unable to engage in any sort of activity. His wife was working in the Temple and library in Salt Lake City.
