Rufus Lloyd Tyler, 88, of Walla Walla died Sunday, July 17, 2011, at home surrounded by loving family. He was born June 25, 1923 in Attica, near Little Rock, Arkansas, son of Rufus Black Tyler and Mary Ann (Hogan) Tyler. He married Shirley Ellen Blackmer on August 26, 1940 in the LDS Temple, Salt Lake City, UT. She preceded him in death on April 22, 2009. With great anticipation and rejoicing he has joined his Sweetheart.
Lloyd lived in Arizona after leaving Arkansas and later moved to Twin Falls, Idaho. He raised his family in Walla Walla and has resided there since 1954. He was the owner of State Hardware located on Main Street which later became “Tyler’s”. He sold toys, wallpaper, paint, skis, bikes, denim jeans and most anything that made children of all ages happier for coming in to see Lloyd. After retirement he and his wife served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas. He is survived by seven of his eight children; Jan Tyler, Salt Lake City, UT; Anne (Tyler) & Bob Cloud, Santa Monica, CA; Tim & Joan Tyler, Anchorage, AK; Trudy (Tyler) & Gary Barnes, Cedar Hills, UT; Sue (Tyler) & Darryl Alder, Provo, UT; Lloyd & Jennifer Tyler, Vancouver, WA; Mary Beth (Tyler) & Joe Hoel, Milton-Freewater, OR. The youngest daughter, Shauna Tyler, preceded him in death, along with his parents & 11 siblings: Emmett, Thelma, Ada, Blanche, Edna, Velma, Leslie, Glenda, Mildred, Jewel, Lyman, (Ellen & Ethel, cousins who were also raised by his parents).
Descendants include; 8 children & 6 spouses, 24 grandchildren & 19 spouses, 43 great grandchildren & 2 spouses; totaling 102
