Note

Edward's dates are 1879 - 1963.
His first wife was Susannah- she followed Edward to Canada after he had built a cabin for them to live in. They married in Canada. They had one son, John Blackett Collinge dates 1907 -1998. He was known as Jack by his family.
Susanah died in 1907, two weeks after John was born. After his wife's death, poor Edward had to build a coffin and bury her on his plot. The coffin was later moved to a proper cemetary, there is a photo of it attached to her section on my tree.
Edward's sister travelled to Canada and rescued the baby, bringing him back to Salford ( they pl;aced teh baby at 89 Lissadell Street, Pendleton, with a Mrs Tonge- possibly where he lived for 12 years before returning permanently to Canada. He did come back once for a vist a few years later.
John Blackett married Beatrice Minnick- they had 11 children and lived on a farm.
Edward wrote back to the UK and Georgina Greenleas then aged 39 jumped on a boat and travelled to Canada where she married Edward. They didn't have any children.

Background info:

Edward went to Canada- having originally intended to go to Australia. He saw a poster advertising land in Canada organised by the Reverend Barr- a vicar.
Mr Barr was I think an idealist who had little common sense! He promised the travellers a new life- but perhaps omitted to tell them how tough it would be.
The settlers were known as the Barr colonists- a lot of them suffered horribly in the icy winters of Canada with no proper homes. They named their town- Marshall after another vicar who helped them out. I can't find Edward's name on the passenger list for the Barr Colonist ships but think it has been spelled wrongly as Collins. 5 ships went over from Liverpool.
Georgina - a saleswoman sailed to Canada on 30th June 1911 on the Virginian from Liverpool to Quebec. She then tavelled by train to marshall.

John Blackett Collinge returned to Canada on October 25th 1919 from Liverpool on the SS 'Haverford'. He didn't seem to have any relative with him!
