Note	Probate Robert Allen of 37 Old Lane, Higher Openshaw, Manchester, retired Publican died on 6th December 1907. Probate at Manchester on 24th December 1907 to Francis Royle, Butcher and Ellen Whitehead (wife of Robert Whitehead). Effects £1674 12 1d.
Note	Robert Allen ran a public house in Openshaw. His wife died, quite young and he probably declined and died quickly afterwards. His children were teenagers, and in employment, so an aunt and uncle moved in to keep house for them. There was not much money, and the family were sent to work on little breakfast. One day young Robert forgot something, and returned to the house shorly after leaving for work. To his surprise he found the aunt and uncle enjoying a lavish breakfast, far better than that offered to the family. A row ensued and the family dismissed the relatives and decided that Jane would leave work to keep house and they would cope alone.
