Note

Edwin Watman Fatal Accident.
A few days ago a young lad, son of James Watman, settler near Crookwell was thrown from his horse, thwe animla falling upon him. The injuries at first did not appear to be dangerous and he was able to walk home, but after a time he became worse and on Monday, Dr Davidson was sent . It was found that serious internal injuries had been inflicted and the doctor pronounced the case hopeless. Next morning the patient died.

A Fatal Fall.-Last Wednesday (says the 'Southern Argus ot the 11th) Mr. T. Marsden, coroner, held an inquest at Fairhalt, near Crookwell on tha body of Edwin Watman. James Watman, a farmer, deposed -. Deceased, Edwin Watman, was my son a lad over fifteen years of age; on Sunday week the deceased left home about 7 o'clock in the evening, with the intention of attending church in Crookwell ; He was then well; I saw no more of deceased till (between 9 and 10 o'clock that night ; he came into the house and said, " Buck (meaning the horse) has had a fall;" I knew by this deceased meant the horse had fallen with him; deceased's sisters asked him if the horse had hurt him ; he said " No ;" he went to bed soon after ; next day he got up as usual, and went to work fencing ; worked all day and did not complain ; he stayed that night with his brother in Crookwell ; in the morning about two o'clock he awoke and said he was thirsty, and complained of pain in his chest; I saw deceased about half- past nine in the morning at his brother's ; he was then lying on the bed ; I said " Hallo, what is the matter with you ?" he said " I don't know, I feel pretty queer-I have a pain in my ribs on the left side ; I then went for Mr. Wilkins, a chemist who
resides in Crookwell ; he came up and advised me to bring the deceased home ; I then put him on his horse and brought him home ; I had great difficulty doing so ; he complained of not being able to see, and could not sit upright in the saddle ; after getting deceased home, he was on and off the bed during the day, and seemed slightly delirious ; he continued getting worse till he died on Tuesday morning last ;
During his illness he had every attention from his mother, sisters, and myself, and we adopted the
remedies recommended by Mr. Wilkins; deceased never complained to me of being unwell up to the
time of the accident ; deceased said he was cantering up the hill near Crookwell on the road to church when the horse missed his step and fell over a log, in struggling to get up the horse rolled on his chest
Some additional evidence being taken, the coroner returned a verdict that deceased died trom injuries accidentally received by a fall from his horse.
