His furniture and effects were sold in Cheltenham in November 1876 for £676 which was just short of the debts of the deceased of £ £ 684.12 shillings 2 pence. These included £91. 8 shillings 1 penny for wines & spirits ; plus his wife's bills from a dress maker and corset maker ; plus fees at Cheltenham College and Whitworth School of Science.

However it is said a list of jewels and plate was made in 28/2/1884, totalling £500 - apportioned between the 5 children.
