1891 census Villa Brunnel?, West Road, Bourne, Lincolnshire Henry R. F. Canham Head 38 Clerk in Holy Orders Sutton, Suffolk The only reference I can find for him is in 1901 when a boarder at the Reigate School in Surrey. 1911 census Missionary College, Burgh, Lincolnshire 22 rooms, 26 cubicles Charles Russell CANHAM Boarder 24 Male Single Theological Student Dunsby, Bourne, Lincs. Birth: 1886 Parents Rev Henry Robert Field Canham 1851 - 1831 Rev Canham and Emma, were married on the 4 January 1877, at St Mary's Church, Edge Hill, Lancashire. 1891 Census - Rev Canham 5, was living with his parents, and siblings, in West Road, Bourn, Lincolnshire. 1901 Census - Rev Canham who would've been 14 or 15, was a pupil at the Royal Asylum of St Anne's Society, Redhill, Reigate, Surrey. The school was a charitable society that provided, "education and instruction in religious, and useful knowledge agreeable to the formularies of the Church of England, as well as clothing, maintenance, and a home for legitimate children of parents who had seen better days, and have moved in a superior station in life." At this time in the young Rev Canham's life, his father was in considerable debt, which is probably why he was sent to the Royal Asylum of St Anne's Society. 1911 Census - Rev Canham was a Theolology student at the college, in Burgh le Marsh, Nr Skegness, Lincolnshire. Rev Canham married Gwendoline Mabel Malim, on the 14 August 1914, in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, Canada. Known Children Diana Canham l'm not sure where Rev Canham met Gwendoline, but l do know that she was a Nanny, from Norland College, in London. Their Nannies were sent all over the world to work, alot of them to Europe's Royal families. Gwendoline was working in Inverness, Scotland in 1913. In 1914, aged 31, she met and fell in love with Rev Canham, but the Norland register has no employment address for her at this time. After their marriage the Canham's lived in a small town called Avonlea, in Saskatchewan. According to the book 'British Nannies & the Great War,' Gwendoline "ministered to her husband's widespread congregation, travelling by horse and stopping overnight with strangers along the way, but Gwendoline was in her element organizing, caring and coping with whatever life threw at her, even after finding a young settler frozen to death in his shack." They returned to England in 1919, and Gwendoline died in 1924, aged 41. On the 20 July 1927, Rev Canham married widow Julia Schofield nee Sheldrake, at St John the Baptist's Church, Halifax, West Yorkshire. No known children from this marriage. Rev Canham was widowed in 1959. England & Wales National Probate Calendar Reverend Charles Russell Canham of Glebeland, 5 Kings Newnham Rd, Church Lawford, Nr Rugby, clerk in Holy Orders, died 15 December 1964. Probate Birmingham 6 April 1965, to Russell Wentworth Canham, stores manager and Gwendoline Norah Thorpe, married woman. Rev Canham died aged 78. Burial: |
