Was born into an Ultra Orthodox Charedi Family of Gerrer Hassidim.
He gave up his orthodox practice during the war.
He NEVER EVER spoke of his family all of whom were murdered during theShoah. as a result we only know 8 of his 13 siblings
We know that he was the youngest of 13 children.

He had a Great mathematical & business mind was very good at Chess &Bridge

Changed the family name from Jehuda LAJB Lindwasser to Leo Lind on the1st May 1953

Escaped the Nazi by going to Vilna Lithuania then getting a Visa to Japanfrom the Dutch They (Leo & his wife Dorka) were in Japan for 9 monthsthen went to Shanghai
Spent World War II (1940 to 1945) in Shanghai
He was tortured by the Japanese for suspected currency dealings inShanghai

Migrated to Australia in 1948 by boat (a Mr Sokol sponsored them)
The Family first lived in Palm Court St Kilda before purchasing land andbuilding a house on Dandenong Road (near Kooyong Rd) Caulfield.

Just prior to that he had puchased land on Inkerman St - which hesubsequently gave to Caulfield Hebrew ConGregation to build a Shule.

His first job was working the son- in law of Mr Sokol (Helen Wjeisbrum'sHusband) in the clothing business

After he Learned the English Language he went into business with a MrLight (Mr LitchenStein)

Then started Linds Wholesale Textiles Pty Ltd importing and distributingtextiles - based in Little Flinders Lane (Famous as the Jewish rag areaof Melbourne). The business inteligence/ goodwill & furniture was sold toMr Max New and his son in law Rabbi Yossel Gutnick (Yossel & Leo oftenLearn Torah together - in the Days before Yossel became wealthy)

Collapsed with a Heart Attack whilst playing Bridge.
