Lubavitcher Rebbe From his early years in Nikolaev, Russia, where he was born in 1902, theRebbe displayed a prodigious mind and a sensitivity to human suffering. Educated by private tutor as a child, and then at the University ofBerlin and the SorBonne, the Rebbe exhibited an extraorDinary breadth anddepth of knowledge, was gifted in the sciences, and had a ReMarkablefluency in many Languages. But it was in the Torah, the Talmud, in both the exoteric and esotericrealms of Torah and Judaism, that the Rebbe's erudition and brillianceprovided fundamental and original insights to Jewish scholarship. Indeed, more than 200 major volumes of the Rebbe's prolific writing anddiscourses have already been published; Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson The seventh Lubavitcher Rebbe, eldest son of the saintly Kabbalist, RabbiLevi Yitzchak, Rav of YeKaterinoslav; fifth in direct paternal line fromthe Tzemach Tzedek; son-in-law of the Rebbe Rayatz. As the Leader of one of the largest Chassidic groups in the world theRebbe expended a Great deal of time and effort on outreach.
