Note
|
The Goldschmidt family was descended from Mosche Goldschmidt and his wifeBela. They settled in the Goldener Schwan in 1521. Like other famiLies, such as the Buchsbaums and Cahns, they migrated from Nuremberg, followingthe expulsion of the Jews there in 1498. The earLiest Goldschmidts found in Witzenhausen by Horwitz (1924/25) areAbraham and Mosche Goldschmidt who payed protection money in 1625.Probably, this Abraham is not identical with the son of BenedictGoldschmidt, although they both seem to have died in the same year, because a list from 1671 mentions two (different?) people by the name ofAbrahamb Goldschmidt, one in Kassel and one in Witzenhausen, who payedprotection money (Staats-Archiv Marburg Best. 5 Nr. 2329). Perhaps theyare cousins. Horwitz thinks that Abraham and Mosche Goldschmidt are sonsof Schmoll Mosche, who is mentioned in Witzenhausen in the period1604-1622, but does not provide any evidence |
