Note

Served "At Home" until June 1838 when the regiment was sent to Montreal Canada

The Discharge was on medical grounds - an Inguinal Hernia sustained during drill training.

They had land in Onehunga township 1854.

Joseph & Ann Osborne have not been found in searches of death and burial records in New Zealand. (I purchased a number of death certs for likely candidates without success.) I think that they left New Zealand, perhaps to return to Montreal,
Canada or the USA or Australia.

Notes on the Oriental Queen 1849
8th Detachment of Fencibles from Ireland under the command of Capt. Theodore Minet Haultain of the 39th Regiment. The Fencibles settled Onehunga, Papakura and Howick, in Auckland NZ.

Joseph's Granddaughter, Augusta Edger visited cousins in Detroit & Indianapolis in 1929. I believe these cousins to be descendents of Joseph & Ann Osborne.
They visited James Dunwoodie in Detroit and his sister Mattie Costin in Indianapolis. "Mattie" is sometimes a variant of "Martha".

Muriel Osborne says that the family was connected to the Railroad business. (In the census record below William is in the Railroad freight business.)

The following family from Detroit is a good fit (with the exception that Ann is supposedly born in Canada rather than England) I still need to find the marriage, but I think that the wife "Ann" may be Ann Osborne b circa 1827
