Note

Unlike his father on the outbreak of the civil war he chose to ally himself with the Pompeians against Caesar. In the early stages he was employed by both sides as a messenger bringing offers of negotiation which came to nothing. In 49 BC hefled to Africa where he served as proquaestor to Cato in 46 BC. After the Battle of Thapsus, he surrendered to Caesar, being killed not Long after. It's not clear whether he was killed on the orders of Caesar or whether he fell a victim to thefury of the dictator's soldiers.
