Demetrius III, called Eukarios or Philometor (died 88 bc), king of Syria
(95-88 bc), grandson of Demetrius II. In 95 bc, with the aid of Ptolemy
VIII (reigned 116-107, 88-80 bc, king of Egypt, he recovered part of Syria
from Antiochus X Eusebes (died 92 bc), grandson of Antiochus VII (circa
159-129 bc). From 93 bc until his Death Demetrius III was joint ruler of
all Syria with his Brother Philip I, against whom for a time he waged a
civil war. During a war with Parthia, Demetrius III was captured; he died
while in captivity. Philip I was deposed in 84 bc.
