Note

He was a volunteer under Captain Holyoke at the Falls Fight, May 19, 1676;
settled in DeerField, 1682. He was commissioned ensign in the Malitia by
Colonel John Pynchon. He was made lieutenant of the "Standing Forces" by
Governor Andros, February 18, 1686--when he made up his own little private
army--but Welles took sides against Andros in 1688, and was representative
from DeerField in the "People's Legislature" in 1689; was military
commander in DeerField from 1686 to his Death in 1691. He married on
January 12, 1672 Hepzibah, daughter of William Buell. They had eight
Children.
