Note

Ferdinand VI, called The Learned (1713-59), king of Spain (1746-59). He
was the son of King Philip V. Although he was the first Ferdinand of the
united kingdom of Spain, he numbered himself after Ferdinand V, king of
Castile. Ferdinand VI abandoned the old Spanish policy of foreign
entanglements and kept Spain neutral during the early part of the Seven
Years' War. He also promoted internal welfare by encouraging industry, and
he reorganized the navy.
