Note
|
Born in Holmstead, Cuckfield, and the 9th son of Walter, Peter earned his fortune in the Portugese Wine and Bullion Trade. He settled in Kent around 1688 and bought Kelseys, a considerable estate in the parish of Beckenham, for £3600 from aBrograve. Four of his sons and one daughter died infants. The Kent and Sussex Properties, and the Portugese business, passed to his eldest son, also Peter. A monument to Peter can be seen in the nave of the north aisle in St. George's Church, Beckenham, Kent. |
