Note
|
Charles IV (of Navarre), called Don Carlos or Prince of Viana, was the son of John II, king of Aragon and Princess Blanche of Navarre (1385?-1441). Charles was expelled from Navarre in 1441 by his father, although his title to the kingdom, whichhe inherited from his mother, had been recognized by the Courts. After nine years of civil war, Charles was captured in 1452 and subsequently imprisoned. Following his release he lived in France and Italy, then returned to Navarre, and againwas imprisoned in 1459. New revolts compelled John II to recognize his son's succession in 1461, but within three months Charles died, perhaps of poison. |
