St. Johns Free Church, Westcott, Dorking, Surrey, England.
Note: John Worsfold, described as an "Extensive Landowner" and known as "The Squire of Westcott", built St. John's Free Church in 1840. It is said he planted an acorn when a small boy and lived to see it grow into a large tree. Prior to his death he had it cut down and had his coffin made from it's timber. This he stored in the Chapel as his wife would not have it in the house. In addition to his own coffin, in which he now rests under the altar, he had the base and cover for the beautiful font at the front of the Church made from the same tree. He died in 1852. |
