To the memory of that worthy young gentleman, Ninian Burrell, the second son of Ninian Burrell of Cuckfield Esq. Walter Burrell, his elder brother, willingly and not without his desert hath erected this monument. He was a student of good learning at Oxford where he lived there 3 years fellow commoner of Waddam College. Afterward he gave himself to study of law at London where he lived for the space of five years in y middle temple and being 27 years old died of a consumption at London on 10th of November 1628 and here being buried waiteth the second coming of y messiah. His words as he lay on his deathbed: My flesh and my heart faileth, but god is y strength of my heart and my portion forever. Latin verse |
