James Billinsley Sr. was a pioneer settler in the Pine Mountain area of Rabun County, Georgia, where he became a large land owner. The Billingsley family owned 3500 acres around Pine Mountain. He was a Commissioner who helped lay out the road now known as South Carolina Highway 28, running from SC toward Highland, NC. Many of his descendants live in the SC, GA and NC neighboring communities. Billingsley is a very old name. The ancestors of James Bilingsley Sr. can be traced through Irish and English Royal lines. John Billingsley was born 1587 in Com Salop (Shrpshire?). Five of his sons migrated to America prior to 1647. They settled in maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia. |
