FATAL ACCIDENT AT ECHT
FALL OF (sic) A GABLE
On Thursday forenoon, while William Mutch, crofter, Redhill,
Cullerlie, Echt (37 years of age), in the employment of Mr
Burnett, mason, Drum, was engaged along with others
undermining the wall of a stable at Templefold, the wall
suddenly gave way, and Mutch was buried up to the waist in
debris. His companions soon had him freed from his perilous
position, but it was seen that he had been severely crushed
internally. He was taken home, where he was attended by Dr
Rannie, Culter. He lingered on till about half-past three in
the afternoon, when the poor fellow passed away. He only
recovered consciousness for a few minutes, being just able to
say to his wife, “I can’s stand this very long; but it can’t be
helped.” Much sympathy is felt in the district for his poor
wife, who is in delicate health, and three young children.
