MARGARET SCHAAD KALB
of EndicottMargaret S. Kalb, 92, died peacefully, Wednesday, January 24, 2001, at the Hilltop Retirement Community. She is survived by Dr. John A. Kalb, her husband of 65 years. She is also survived by a son, John S. Kalb, Kingston, Pa.; a daughter, Gretchen K. Scherping and her husband, Dr. Steven C. Scherping, Vestal; four grandchildren and their spouses, Karen Scherping and Dr. Erol E. Gulcicek, Cheshire, Conn., Lisa Scherping and Dr. Benjaman D. Knox, Oxford, Md., Dr. Steven C. Scherping, Jr. and Dr. Loran M. Salamone, Great Falls, Va., Scott K. Scherping and Julianne Hahn, Harleysville, Pa.; Blessed also with six great-grandchildren, Michael, Jonathan, Ethan Gulcicek, Abigail Knox, Steven, Sara Scherping. Other survivors include a cousin, Christine Cook Van Riper, Vestal; nephews, Russell B. Miller, Jr. and Eugene F. Miller, Woodbridge, Va. She was predeceased by her brothers, Franklin, Walter, Clifford and Alfred. Margaret was born in Mildred, Pa. to Katherine Cook and Henry Schaad. Following the completion of high school, she graduated in 1932, from the Robert Packer School of Nursing and became a pediatric nurse at Endicott's Ideal Hospital. In addition to being a charter member of the Auxiliary of the Broome County Medical Society, she was affiliated with the Wilson Hospital Auxiliary, Woman's Club of Endicott, Inner Wheel of Endicott, the Order of the Eastern Star and her Wednesday afternoon Bible Group. Her membership in the Valleyview Alliance Church brought her many friends and pleasures. During her last two years of life, both the length and quality were greatly enhanced by the dedicated staff and caregivers at Sunset Village. Her family is deeply grateful that she and her husband have been a part of this special program at Hilltop. A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2001 at 2 p.m. at the Valleyview Alliance Church, 11 Foster Rd., Vestal, N.Y. Rev. David M. Murphy, pastor of her church will officiate. The family will receive friends at 1 p.m. until the time of service. Burial will be at The Vestal Hills Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Hilltop Retirement Community, 286 Deyo Hill Rd., Johnson City, N.Y. 13790. the U.H.S. Foundation, Mitchell Ave., Binghamton, N.Y. 13903 or the Valleyview Alliance Church. Arrangements are by the Allen Memorial Funeral Home, 511-513 East Main St., Endicott.
